99. No Kings Day | Perfume as Protest and Truth

Shadow Tech by Fanette Guilloud

👋 Hi fragrance friend,

No Kings Day isn’t about hate, it’s about love.
Love for the ideals that remind us we are equal in rights and dignity.
It’s also about standing against the abuse of power, especially when it harms those with the least protection. To reclaim the right to speak about what matters is to affirm a simple truth: when power is shared, it doesn’t dim — it amplifies

Perfume can be part of that truth. A form of expression. Even dissent.

Each note carries its own weight: tobacco steadies florals, aldehydes settle into resins, spices lift through amber. None seeks to dominate — only to coexist and support the others, like an ecosystem in motion. You catch one, then another, until they all cascade in an electric rhythm.

Today I want to wear something a bit edgy yet composed and self-aware. I'm craving a scent that doesn’t perform but remains expressive and transparent: honest, clear, unwavering on its own terms.

  1. Fleur du Mal by Dries Van Noten | Expressive dark florals & suede

  2. Havana Gold by Dries Van Noten | Nostalgic tabac & licorice

  3. Existence by Amouage | Angelic tone with florals & resisns

Poet and activist Audre Lorde once wrote in The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action,

“Your silence will not protect you.”

These words feel especially alive today—a reminder that truth, when spoken or worn, can move through the air and reach beyond language.

Here is a Scented Letter on scents and truth-telling and another Scented Letter on bold scents for dissent and hope.

With kindness,
🕊 Flor at Nectar Atelier
