On Patience and Perfume: Why Fragrance Takes Time - 120
👋 Hi fragrance friend,
I keep thinking about the way fragrance asks us to wait.
Not in the way we wait for something to arrive, but the way we wait for understanding—patient, open, without force. You spray something new on your wrist and for a moment it's just a shock of cold alcohol. Then it begins.
On Patience
I've learned that the perfumes I love most are the ones I didn't understand right away. The ones that felt strange at first, or too moody, or almost nothing. But I kept returning to them as if searching for their true meaning. I'd wear them while making coffee, while walking, while sitting still. And slowly, without noticing at first, they'd reveal themselves. A note I hadn't grasped before. A warmth that only appeared after an hour. A memory I didn't know was there, hidden.
Experiencing perfume as art requires patience and time—to let scents settle into your skin, to see how they move through a morning or an evening. To notice what pulls you back.
Take your time. Wear them more than once. Give them a second chance.
Patience is a virtue I'd like to nurture in 2026. What about you?
With kindness, 🕊
