92. The Scent of Stillness – On Sunday, Rest & Renewal in Perfume

👋 Hi fragrance friend,

After thinking about restraint — the art of doing less — I found myself returning to what often follows: stillness. The kind that asks nothing of us but to stop, to breathe, and simply be.

The Scent of Stillness

The most beautiful part of a fragrance often arrives after motion — in the dry-down, when the rush has passed and the scent settles into the warmth of your skin. It’s there, in that quiet persistence, that perfume becomes part of you.

The same holds true for life and creation. We spend so much time shaping, reaching, refining — but stillness is the exhale after we allow things to settle. It’s the moment before the next breath, the space that gives meaning to sound, to scent, to form.

Rest is the pause between the ebbs and flows — a chance for the senses to gather themselves again, to let beauty unfold at its own pace. As I sit at my desk — morning light across paper, a faint trace of coffee in the air — I’m reminded that stillness isn’t empty. It’s alive with potential and possibility.

Today is Sunday — a day of rest, the kind that nourishes both body and spirit. It brings to mind the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 11:28–29:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Our Lord invites us to lay down our burdens and find renewal in Him — a reminder that stillness isn’t emptiness, but peace, the kind that allows us to simply be.
