🍶 63. Late Summer Glow — Havana Gold by Dries Van Noten Review & Samples

👋 Hi fragrance friend,

There’s a golden softness that only late summer carries — the brightness hasn’t fully left, but a deeper warmth is already on the air. I've written about this gem before in this Scented Letter but it merits more. Havana Gold by Dries Van Noten captures that feeling beautifully. Love the honey hues of the bee collecting nectar in the photo Eden by marlen Stahlhuth.

As you may know, I gravitate towards tabac, anise and licorice notes in fragrance but I would still explore this gem if not particularly drawn to these notes as the composition is well blended. It starts bright, with a shimmer of mandarin cut through by the dark sweetness of licorice and star anise. Then it settles into something richer: smooth tobacco laced with cinnamon, glowing like embers as daylight fades. In the background, suede and tonka add a quiet depth, making the fragrance feel elevated yet easy to wear.

Havana Gold is not loud — it’s smooth, golden, and quietly magnetic, like warmth held close. With kindness, 🕊 Flor at Nectar Atelier

Try Zouzou by Celine if you are drawn to nostalgic scents that feel like a golden cloud. For something equally soft,  Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille offers golden warmth—boozy vanilla laced with incense and delicate woods, while Guerlain Gourmand Coquin wraps rose, cacao, and black tea in a swirl of spices—decadent yet tender. Amouage Guidance 46 is a bit brighter than the original Amouage Guidance, where pear, saffron, and rose unfold over rich woods and ambergris. Dries Van Noten Soie Malaquais lingers with notes of blackcurrant, rose, and hazelnut—a silky composition that feels both luminous with a gourmand touch. And for a rare, luminous quietude, Amouage Existence glows with skin-warmed florals, aldehydes, and serene radiance—weightless but unforgettable.
