đź 46. Amouage Existence â Review & Samples
âThe Peace of Wild Thingsâ
by Wendell Berry
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my childrenâs lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
Some fragrances feel like more than scentâthey feel like stillness, like a pause in the rush of things. Existence by Amouage is one of those perfumes. As I revisited Wendell Berryâs poem The Peace of Wild Things, I was struck by how closely its quiet reverence mirrors what I feel when wearing this fragrance. Both offer a soft veil from the noise of the worldâa moment of luminous calm and grounding presence.
Iâm deeply inspired by Berryâs words. His poem captures something I feel when I wear Amouage Existenceâa return to stillness, to presence. Like the poem, this fragrance evokes a quiet surrender: the gentle clarity of lily of the valley and rose, the luminous breath of frankincense, the tender grounding of resins. Existence wears like a soft veil between you and the worldâcalm, radiant, and expansive, like standing near water at dawn, when the mind finally lets go and begins to feel peace.

Try Zouzou by Celine if you are drawn to nostalgic scents that feel like a golden cloud. For something equally soft, Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille offers golden warmthâboozy vanilla laced with incense and delicate woods, while Guerlain Gourmand Coquin wraps rose, cacao, and black tea in a swirl of spicesâdecadent yet tender. Amouage Guidance 46 is a bit brighter than the original Amouage Guidance, where pear, saffron, and rose unfold over rich woods and ambergris. Dries Van Noten Soie Malaquais lingers with notes of blackcurrant, rose, and hazelnutâa silky composition that feels both luminous with a gourmand touch. If you are in the mood for a sparkling rose with dewy petals, try Little Flower by RĂ©gime des Fleurs.
